Accessibility statement

geowatt should be usable by everyone, including with a screen reader, keyboard or zoom. This statement covers the website geowatt.ai, the free check, sign-in and the cockpit.

Compliance status

The website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. The limitations listed below are known and being worked on.

How we tested

  • Automated testing with axe against WCAG 2.1 A and AA.
  • 70 website pages on desktop, 15 of them also at phone size.
  • Keyboard-only use of the homepage, check, sign-in and this statement in all five languages: skip link, order, visible focus, no focus trap.
  • Reading structure of these pages, meaning what screen readers announce: headings, landmarks, field and link names, page language.
  • 8 cockpit pages with a signed-in account.
  • All five languages: German, English, Italian, French, Spanish.

Measures taken

  • A “Skip to content” link on every page, in the page language.
  • All sign-in form fields have labels that screen readers announce.
  • All sliders in the calculator have an accessible name.
  • Scrollable tables are marked up as labelled regions.
  • Links in body text are underlined, not marked by colour alone.
  • Label contrast has been increased.
  • Live answers in example graphics are announced as status; purely decorative rows are hidden from screen readers.
  • Motion is reduced when “Reduce motion” is set in the operating system.
  • Every page has a language attribute, a heading structure and a unique page title.

Known limitations

  • In the scroll story on the home page, steps that are not active are dimmed. Their contrast is below the minimum there; the text becomes fully readable once the step is active.
  • We checked the reading structure technically. A test with a real screen reader such as NVDA or VoiceOver by people who use one daily is still pending.
  • Shared PDF reports are not yet fully tagged for screen readers.

Next steps

  • Testing with NVDA and VoiceOver by experienced screen reader users.
  • An automated test that checks the home page, check and sign-in on every change.
  • A solution for the dimmed steps without losing contrast.
